Carrington Von Becker, our precious “Kiwi,” was born to us, Dalyn and Cheris Becker, at Katy Birth Center - Katy, TX, on September 2, 2020. Even as a small baby, he seemed to love to connect with people and he smiled at an early age. His striking blue eyes engaged easily with anyone who looked his way. His big brother George adored him from the beginning, begging often to hold him. Atticus took a little longer to appreciate the usurper of his baby position, but, once he warmed to his little brother, loved to spend time with Kiwi. As with his smile, other firsts such as walking and talking came early. His easy ways and tractable nature made him a relaxed addition to our home. He loved playing outside, chasing the chickens, jumping on the trampoline, and choring the pigs and other animals. Due to his Mommy helping his Daddy in the dirt moving business, he spent much of 2021 in the care of his special “Grandpa Jerrys”. Kiwi loved being outdoors and choring the animals there, too. By the age of 18 months, he started going along with us to the field, riding with one of us in one of the dirt rigs. He loved coming along to the field, his blanky dragging through the dirt, and would eagerly head for the tractor as soon as we got to the field. In more recent months, as Mommy was home full time, the highlight of Kiwi’s day was Daddy’s return from the field and he often beat his older brothers to the door, shouting, “Daddy!!” On August 16, 2022, the boys went swimming several times. Later in the afternoon, as we were working outside, we realized Kiwi had disappeared. After checking both sides of the busy highway that runs near our house, Mommy remembered the pool and how much he loved the water. The EMT’s arrived in minutes, stabilized him, and moved him to an open area where the Life Flight met them. The PICU team of Memorial Hermann Children’s Hospital provided outstandingly professional and sympathetic care, but it became clear in the afternoon of August 24, 2022, that he would not recover. All his grandparents, uncles, aunts, and older cousins took turns going to his room to say goodbye. His Mommy held him in her arms as his little heart stopped beating in the early hours of the following morning. He is mourned by his Daddy & Mommy, Dalyn & Cheris Becker, and brothers, George (6) and Atticus (4), of El Campo, TX. Other family members left to mourn are Grandpa and Grandma Becker: Doyle & Rochelle of Pryor, OK; uncles and aunts: RaDawn & Sheldon Schmidt of Pryor, OK and Raeann & Trevor Smith of Montezuma, KS; Grandpa & Grandma Toews: Grant & Grace of Brandon, MB; uncles and aunts: Dean & Merita Toews of Brandon, MB; Karalee & Frank Toews of Vanderhoof, BC; Dalys & Linda Toews of Cromer, MB; and 14 cousins. He is the first of his family to be called through the gate.
